In November 2018, Mexico City underwent a water cut affecting 900,000 people due to the maintenance and repairs of the Cutzamala system, a water system serving 22 million people. Irys deployed a mobile web app and Dashboard to monitor in real-time the water distribution operation in the Municipality of Cuauhtémoc. The implementation of Irys platforms helped the City to more efficiently monitor water distribution and better serve residents’ needs.

Problem:

In Mexico City, 3 out of 10 citizens frequently face water supply problems in their neighborhoods. In November 2018, Mexico City underwent a water cut affecting 900,000 people due to the maintenance and repairs of the Cutzamala system, a water system serving 22 million people.

To efficiently track and deliver water to residents in the City, Irys deployed the Irys app and Irys Dashboard to monitor in real-time the distribution of water to residents in the Municipality of Cuauhtémoc. The municipality had over 70 different operatives on the field monitoring water distribution locations, the quantity of water, and people served with Irys technology.

The platforms implemented to monitor the operation included the Irys app for mobile devices and Irys Dashboard to manage the information collected by the agents on the ground.

Results:

In the City of Cuauhtémoc in Mexico City, we gained 53,460 users, who reported 624 points of water distribution, with 62,000 requests from the user community. The city government delivered 400,000 gallons of water. Our Dashboard currently supports the water infrastructure and delivery process for the City of Cuauhtémoc with 20 government employees using the Dashboard tools.

By implementing the Irys tool in the City of Cuauhtémoc, Irys addressed the issue of water scarcity, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to safe drinking water and supporting and strengthening the participation of the local communities in improving water management.
